FAQ's

Who started The River?

A group of people felt a calling to start a church that would show all people how much God loves them and wants to make a difference in their lives.

What Were You Thinking?

We saw the need for a church for people who were not attending, may not feel welcome, or didn’t understand much of what was done in a church. We wanted to create an experience where people feel comfortable, familiar and relevant. For example, instead of telling people to “Love God and people”, we want to teach HOW to love God and people, right here, right now! Our second thought was to help each other to become spiritually mature and be part of God’s plan to improve our part of the world.

When Did The River Begin?

It all began in a local resident’s home in 2003. No fanfare…no fireworks…just people. The River went from a living room to an elementary school to a high school and on to its current location at the former Delavan Theater. We look forward as we send people to improve Walworth county, and other parts of the world.

Why Does The River Do What It Does, How It Does It?

Biblical messages are presented in ways that help connect ancient truths with today’s faith-walk. We use movies, music, books, stories and dramas creatively that can help you figure out how to bridge the gap between you and God at different levels. We also encourage people to use their gifts and talents to communicate spiritual truths…so expect to see something different at our weekend services!

Will I fit in at The River?

No experience is necessary to come to The River. You do not need to have any experience with God, the Bible or any church before you attend. Whether you’re single, married, divorced, with or without children—no matter where you’ve been or what you’ve done—we invite you to experience God and a different way to do church.
